TRUCKS

The Biggest Culprits of  Air Pollution

A study by National Environmental Engineering & Research Institute (NEERI). stated that the biggest culprits in the air pollution are trucks.

According to the study, 49 per cent of PM10 and 49.5 per cent are from goods vehicles which release black carbon – commonly called soot and is a marker for exposure to diesel exhaust

The old heavy duty diesel trucks lack soot filters, they have inadequate pollution filtering mechanism causing major air pollution in the cities.

New Age trucks have modern pollution controls and on-board monitoring systems that can cut smog-forming emissions by 90%, compared with older truck engines

One truck with malfunctioning equipment can emit as much pollution as multiple properly maintained trucks hence it is important to carefully maintain pollution-control equipment.

It is suggested to bring in CNG, the cleanest alternative of diesel without any delay. Majority of diesel run vehicles can switch over to CNG, just by retrofitting the conversion kit.
