In an effort to reduce traffic fatalities brought on by big vehicles being parked in an unsafe manner the Odisha government has decided to build truck terminals alongside highways.

The main objectives of developing integrated truck terminals are to lessen fatalities and accidents related to parking, utilise resources to the fullest extent possible, and prevent encroachments.

Vehicle collisions with illegally parked trucks on highway accounted for nearly 25% of the 5,081 accident fatalities in 2021.

The districts of Sundergarh, Balasore, Kendrapara, Angul, Bhadrak, and Nabarangpur have been shortlisted by the state transportation dept. for the construction of truck terminals .
